Position Title:                    Senior Accountant 

Reports to:                        Accounting Manager

Status:                                Full Time Exempt

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant works closely with the leadership team to ensure effective fiscal management and procedures related to the preparation of financial statements according to monthly close schedule.  Responsibilities include assisting in all accounting (not-for-profit) functions, journal entries, reconciliations, revenue recognition, net asset restrictions and deferred revenue compliance. 

 

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

  • Supports all financial and accounting aspects of the organization, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, deposits, and journal entries
  • Prepares and assists with journal entries for revenue, accruals, general ledger reconciliations, restricted fund compliance and other entries as required 
  • Ensures monthly financial statements are completed in a timely manner
  • Performs initial review of monthly financial statements and presents reports to the Accounting Manager
  • Prepares and compiles information for annual financial audit as well as any grant audits
  • Prepares and compiles information for the annual 990 tax return
  • Prepares ad-hoc financial reports and assists with grant reports
  • Assists with preparation of the organization’s annual budgets
  • Manages and monitors expenses and reporting requirements for different funding sources to assist with the grant reporting
  • Assists with budget variance analysis for programs and financial statements on a monthly basis and reports on variances
  • Maintains effective internal controls
  • Supports the mission of GCYC
  • Works collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth
  • Is committed to the safety and development of all GCYC members
  • Takes on other duties as needed
  • Serves as a role model for youth and community
  • Abides by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting
  • Two to five years of related experience, not-for-profit preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and accounting software
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve effectively 
  • Progress in attaining CPA a plus
  • Experience in Financial Edge software a plus

 

           Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to walk and complete building and program rounds
  • Extended sitting, standing and extended movement is required

Physical Environment:

Majority of the work is conducted in an office setting with the use of general office equipment. Due to the nature of all GCYC positions, travel between buildings on campus may be required with exposure to outdoor elements.  Occasional driving and/or travel may be required.
