Position Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the strategic implementation of development activities for the Gary Comer Youth Center (GCYC). Primary duties of the Assistant Director of Advancement include the development and stewardship of existing and new corporate partners, individuals and volunteers.


This individual will identify new opportunities to grow engagement across all fundraising channels to increase revenue including corporate partnerships, special events, and individual giving. A successful Assistant Director of Advancement will manage and steward a portfolio of corporate and individual relationships and work as a team player to drive growth that achieves our mission and revenue goals. This position reports to the Director of Advancement.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Director of Advancement to support Development Department goals and annual fund development plan
  • Responsible for identifying potential funding sources and developing new funding partners including individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Support the Director of Advancement in all strategic planning for the fundraising program, including annual budget development and ongoing revenue projections and benchmarking
  • Manage donor stewardship program, including systems to track and manage cultivation and solicitation activities
  • Implement donor and prospect communications, social media, and direct mail campaigns
  • Coordinate all aspects of fundraising special events including our annual Benefit Luncheon with over 500 guests
  • Oversee donor database and donor/prospect records to advance giving and improve donor cultivation
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day functions of the Development Department

  • Must demonstrate cultural competency, dedication to working with youth, families and community members in our care
  • Effective project management skills
  • Experience with the formation and presentation of data reports
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects independently
  • Readiness to work on team projects


Education & Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus
  • Three to six years of fundraising experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficient in use of computer technology primarily Microsoft Excel and Office Suite, Blackbaud eTapestry


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 5 pounds
  • Physical exertion associated with using general office equipment
  • Periodic standing and sitting required
  • Office located in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago


Physical Environment:

Majority of work is conducted in an office setting with general office equipment. Due to the nature of the Comer Education Campus, all positions travel between buildings on campus may be exposed to outdoor elements.
